Bruno Gorlato’s work depicts imagined spaces, which seem to reference the passing of time and have a sense of history within them. The streets, the long arcades, the dark doorways, the crenellated trees become a theatrical scene. Objects representing humankind’s progress reoccur in the imagery: the castle, the wheel, the boat, the bicycle, each being protagonists and accomplices of the evolution of our civilization.

Born in Padua in 1940, Bruno Gorlato studied art at school and architecture at Venice University; he then taught art in secondary schools, cooperating also with architecture and town-planning firms. During this period he acquired in-depth experience in the art of engraving.
His first exhibition, "La Favola Metafisica di Bruno Gorlato", held in Padua in 1982, was curated by Giorgio Segato and Frano Solmi.
Gorlato's works have been displayed in over fifty personal exhibitions and forty group exhibitions, in Italy and abroad. Seven monographs on his work have been published.
His engravings have been included in the 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2016 summer catalogues published by Elizabeth Harvey-Lee, Oxford.
MAIN EXHIBITIONS
His first exhibition, "La Favola Metafisica di Bruno Gorlato", held in Padua in 1982, was curated by Giorgio Segato and Frano Solmi.
2017 a personal exhibition of his works called "An Ancient Comedy" was organised in Freiburg as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Padua and Freiburg.
2015 a major exhibition of Gorlato's works from 1960 to 2014 was held at the Centro Culturale Altinate in Padua.
2012 he was invited to display works at the 5th Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Engravers at Castello di Godego (Treviso).
2012 Bruno Gorlato has been a member of the Associazione Nazionale Incisori Contemporanei (National Association of Contemporary Engravers).
